Delaware Valley (PA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated |
HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES |
The Links, Incorporated, established the Health and Human Services facet in response to the chronic health disparities that persist in our communities and the decreased life expectancy of African Americans.
The mission of the Health and Human Services facet is to promote programs that encourage good health habits with the goal of reducing and/or eliminating chronic health disparities in communities of color. Our plan is to educate our community about healthy lifestyles and disease prevention, and it is important for each of our members to become models of the health behavior we hope to promote in our communities. Our programs include:
|
Physical and Emotional Health For physical health, our chapter has provided workshops and programming focused on childhood obesity, breast cancer awareness and oral health (in partnership with the Colgate Bright Futures, Bright Smiles Dental Van). Related to mental health, our chapter participates in the annual suicide prevention walk hosted by the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. Our chapter also focuses on Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDs awareness and testing by partnering with Bebashi to offer testing opportunities to individuals at local community fairs. Finally, sexual health was emphasized through our chapter's participation in the My Sister's Keeper walk to increase awareness of Human Trafficking. |
