Delaware Valley (PA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
INTERNATIONAL TRENDS & SERVICES
Our mission is to expand the global platform to service the educational, health and cultural needs of people of African descent throughout the world. Our goal is to provide tangible, personalized service in other countries to improve the lives of women, children and men worldwide, and to empowering leadership and to advocate for social justice.
In February, 2013 a delegation of Links, Incorporated embarked on a journey to Liberia and Ghana to broaden our International Trends and Services Facet. This trip was designed to service the educational, health and cultural needs of people of African descent. Our delegation visited Liberian schools adopted by the Links, Incorporated, the School for the Blind, the Ann Sandell School and A.M.E. University. We also explored the history and culture of African villages in Liberia and Ghana. Since 1966, The Links, Incorporated has built, refurbished and furnished educational materials to over 60 schools in South Africa.
Our chapter has adopted two young girls from an orphanage in Nigeria and we provide them with academic and personal support.
Rise Against Hunger is an internationally based organization that provides food to those who are most affected by poverty and lack of food sources. The organization has a goal to end hunger by the year 2030. Our chapter has coordinated participation of local chapters to collaborate in the Rise Against Hunger endeavor for the past nine years. Last year we packaged over 10,125 meals to be distributed to developing nations in Africa and the Caribbean, which were sent to Uganda for the Salesian mission, a Rise Against Hunger partner. The Salesian Missions is an organization that nourishes lives through food assistance and other services in Uganda. To date, we have packaged over 100,000 meals.
